| Divina's ENCOUNTER |
Jamaica New Years, 2006-07 I have been living in Jamaica for the last 13 years I am originally from Halifax in west Yorkshire .I work as a freelance designer here in Jamaica .I have worked at Round Hill Hotel(they have a website if you want to look it up and see where he actually stayed ) So the manager of round Hill Hotel Mr. Forstmayr called and said Ewan was here at the hotel with his family mum and dad included and could I pop by to hem his trouser as he didn't realize he needed a tuxedo for the new-year ball. I imagined I was to hem some tuxedo pans so off I went armed with black thread and needle. Called at his room no reply searched all over the hotel ..no where to be seen. Any how I bumped into mar Forstmayr and he went to look for him on the beach .. five minutes loiter he turned up in beach shorts, bare foot, tattoos and all ,with his beautiful Italian brown with cream pinstripe linen pants crushed up in a bundle under his arm , a pair of camouflage converse sneakers. "hope you have some pins "he said withe a Scottish accent and "thank you for coming so quickly" all the while trying on his trousers. "So what happened to the tuxedo" I asked him "ogh he said he didn't know about a tuxedo as he didn't come prepared it's supposed to be some black and white affair, looks like the closest I will get to that is these pants (brown and cream linen in a pinstripe) camouflage converse sneakers and a red t.shirt."We had a laugh about it . Then he recognized I had a Yorkshire accent (still haven't picked up the patwa )and asked how I happened to be in Jamaica which I happily related the account to him (long story short ..came on vacation and stayed ...had no connections out here, no money ,no work and have managed to survive etc..) He was quite amused by the tale. So this was about 10.30 am Saturday morning ..I said I would be back ..he said" tomorrow? "no I said 1pm... He was pretty amazed I would get the job done so quick.. so off I went ..and back I was at 1pm he was out on the terrace with his family having lunch . There was praises all around (since Jamaica has a reputation of nothing getting done on time )"And you can't even see the stitches!!!!!!!!"said Ewan and gave me a big hug!!!! Payment and pleasantries were exchange and he wished me well and off I went. One love from a cool English/Jamaican living on the island of wood and water (Jamaica mon!!!) |
